8.Daigo Kitagawamaru Memorial
A liner, Daigo Kitagawa Maru, with cherry blossom viewers who returned from Kousanji in Setoda-cho went on the Toramaru reef and sank on April 12, 1957. Eventually, the death toll from the catastrophe climbed to 113 persons.
After that, a memorial monument was put up to mourn for the victims on the hill where the reef was seen.
Islanders hold the memorial service every year in April, in hope of prevention of recurrence of the accident.
Cherry trees bloom wonderfully along the approach to the monument.
